SERVICES & APPROACH

Q: What types of services and training do you offer? We offer human services professional development with a focus on creating spaces for reflection, care, and sustainable practice. Our most requested services include professional development trainings, reflective supervision, and burnout prevention workshops. We also facilitate women’s leadership retreats in Minnesota, team building for nonprofit organizations, and consulting for trauma-informed leadership and systems-level change.

Q: How is your approach different from other training programs? We’ve been told our trainings are “not what we expected—in the best way.” Where other experiences might leave participants sighing or rolling their eyes, our offerings are intentional, thought-provoking, and grounded in real-world humanity. We blend reflective practice, practical strategies, and a healthy dose of humor and humility. Most of our examples come straight from our own messy, very human experiences (because let’s be honest—that’s where the best learning happens). This mix helps create real, lasting impact that moves beyond box-checking into ethical accountability in human services and meaningful, sustainable change.

Q: Do you offer both in-person and virtual sessions? Yes. We provide both in-person and virtual options for all of our services and training. For recurring in-person services such as reflective supervision or restorative team building, we typically work within a 100-mile radius to ensure consistency and sustainability. Virtual sessions allow us to partner well beyond our region while maintaining the same relational experience. **Mileage is factored into pricing for all in-person offerings**

Q: How long are typical trainings, workshops, and retreats? We offer a variety of training formats to meet different organizational needs. Customized professional development trainings require a minimum of 2 hours to ensure depth and impact. Our workshops and retreats range from full-day experiences (typically 5–6 hours) to immersive two-day leadership retreats. For ongoing services such as reflective supervision, leadership coaching, or restorative team building, we require a minimum 6-month contract to support sustainable growth and meaningful culture shifts within your team or organization.

OUR AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION

Q: Who are your programs designed for? Our programs are designed for a wide range of human service professionals across social services, healthcare, education, mental health, nonprofit sectors, and other helping professions. We specialize in supporting those navigating complex systems and seeking sustainable ways to lead and care. Many offerings are also open to individuals pursuing leadership development in human services or wanting to deepen their reflective practice. For those seeking reflective supervision or organizational shifts, our programs create space to expand self-awareness, build ethical accountability, and foster meaningful, systemic change.

Q: How do your programs address unique challenges in human services? We integrate trauma-informed training, strategies for burnout prevention, and tools for ethical accountability in human services. Every session acknowledges the complex realities of these fields and offers practical ways to show up with care—for yourself, your team, and the people you serve.

Q: How do people benefit from these services and programs? Participants leave with renewed energy, grounded strategies for work-life balance in human services, and actionable tools they can use immediately. Many describe the experience as a mix of “professional development and personal restoration,” which is exactly our goal.

PROGRAM CONTENT & CURRICULUM

Q: What topics do you offer training on? Our most requested topics include self-care, burnout prevention, Professional Dangerousness and ethical accountability, restorative practices for teams, and women’s leadership development. We also design custom training programs tailored to the unique needs of human service organizations, ensuring the content is relevant, practical, and grounded in the realities of the work.

Q: How do you incorporate work-life balance strategies into your training? Every session emphasizes sustainable self-care and reflective practice, helping professionals integrate small, consistent changes that prevent burnout and restore energy.

Q: Do you teach conflict resolution strategies specific to human services? Yes. We offer practical tools for navigating team dynamics, inter-agency tensions, and client-facing challenges with a focus on restorative, relationship-centered approaches.

Q: What is professional dangerousness? Professional Dangerousness is a term coined by the late Tony Morrison to describe “the process whereby professionals involved in Child Protection work can behave in a way which either colludes with or increases the dangerous dynamics of the abusing family.” (Morrison, 1990). At The PD Collective, we elaborate further, emphasizing Professional Dangerousness (PD) as a vital concept relevant to all human service providers, underscoring how professionals can inadvertently contribute to the challenging family dynamics they aim to help. You might notice it in the small moments, such as: Choosing to avoid difficult conversations because conflict makes you uncomfortable Losing connection to your “why” for choosing this work Putting someone at the bottom of your to-do list because they’re hard to engage PD manifests in individuals, teams, organizations, and their broader systems, affecting mental health and efficacy. Addressing PD promotes a culture of care, effectiveness, and ethical practice.
